Allen Jeral Monroe, a devoted husband, father, veteran, and lifelong learner, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, in Johnstown, Ohio, at the age of 90.
Born on October 13, 1934, in Ada, Oklahoma, Allen lived a life marked by service, wisdom, and compassion. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for fifteen years, earning an honorable discharge and the enduring respect of those who served alongside him. His commitment to helping others continued long after his military service, as he dedicated his career to working with numerous state and county agencies, always striving to make a difference in the lives of those around him.
Allen was a man of deep intellect and curiosity. An avid reader with a remarkable memory, he could recount the details of wars fought abroad—including the two in which he served—with clarity and insight. Long before it became popular, Allen understood and embraced the benefits of herbal remedies, often sharing his knowledge with friends and family. He always had a story to tell and a funny joke on hand—his humor and warmth were constants that brought people together and made every gathering brighter.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine Schaub-Monro, his children Mike, Jane, and Norman, and his stepchildren Lisa Richards, Amy Banta, and Brandon (Michelle) Richards. He was preceded in death by his son, Vincent.
Allen’s legacy is one of service, knowledge, quiet strength, and laughter. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
