A limb has fallen from our family tree with the peaceful passing of Arletha J. Frasure, 88, on May 11, 2025, at Mount Carmel East Hospital following a brief illness surrounded by her loved ones. She was a special mother and grandmother who was always there for us offering support, wisdom, advice, and love in abundance. Family was everything to her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and kindness and has touched the lives of many.
Jo was born on August 5, 1936, in Concord, Ohio to Cecil and Clara Dempsey. She grew up in Urbana, Ohio before moving to Columbus, Ohio to attend The Ohio State University. This is where she met, fell in love and married her husband of 30 years, Thomas Frasure, who left us way too soon in 1986.
She has had a successful life and has worn many hats. She retired from a 25-year career with the Columbus City Schools. She has been a volunteer with Hospice of Columbus, Little Cities of Black Diamonds, and Sunday Creek Watershed Group among others. She served as the mayor of Corning, Ohio hoping to make a difference. She loved to travel. She lived a good life. Most of all though she loved her time spent with family and friends.
Survived and deeply missed by her children, Tracy (Michael) Sutton, Thomas E. Frasure, Jr., Robert Frasure; grandchildren, Tiffany Sutton Bennett (Brian Bennett), Jessica Sutton Meyers, Wesley Frasure, Morgan Frasure, Kaitlyn Frasure (Ryan Pizzino); great- grandchildren, Jordan Sutton, Makenna Bennett, Hudson Bennett, Zayde Frasure, Lucas Meyers, Jaxon Pizzino, Avery Meyers; brother, Jerry (Carol) Dempsey; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Clara Dempsey; loving husband, Thomas Frasure; brother, Donald Dempsey; sisters, Linda, Sandy and Wilda.
It was Jo’s wish to be cremated and laid to rest with her late husband, Tom, in Oakfield, Ohio. A family graveside ceremony will be held at a later date.
We wish to thank all our family and friends for their love and support.
A special thank you to the nursing staff at Mt. Carmel East and the Hospice Team for helping us through this difficult time.
And thank you to Cotner Funeral Home for working with us and taking care of our mother.
