Betty Wagner Obituary

Betty J. Wagner, 90, received her angel wings while surrounded by her family and angels on November 23, 2025. Betty, born on May 18, 1935, was the last surviving child of twelve from the late John and Mizzie Matthews.

Although Miss Betty retired from the Defense Construction Supply Center, she continued working throughout her life.

Whether she was working at Jolly Pirate Donuts and City Barbeque in Reynoldsburg or sampling bakery items at Sam’s Club in Hilliard, Miss Betty was widely known and loved for her enthusiasm, energy and spirit. So much so that in 2006, she was recognized as the Member Service Associate of the Year with Sam’s Club. There was not a place that she traveled to where Miss Betty wasn’t recognized by somebody who knew and loved her.

Miss Betty loved Country Music and Ohio State Football almost as much as she loved her family.

In addition to her parents, Miss Betty was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters John, Ralph, Virginia, Bill, Paul, Don, Charles, Carl, Bobby, and Dave Matthews and Helen Levi.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her “Tinker Toy” and Angel, who she loved unconditionally, daughter Debra Wagner Rumer and her husband John. She is also survived by her lifelong best friends, Shirley Brightbill and Frieda Kolar as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday November 28 at 10:00 am at Cottner Funeral Home, 7369 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg Ohio 43068. The funeral, with Pastor Jim Matthews officiating, will follow at 11:00 am. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Ohio State gear. Interment will be at Lithopolis Cemetery and Mausoleum.

The family would like to thank Miss Betty’s hospice nurses CeCe, Lacy, her hospice aide Kiona, and her Covenant Home Health nurse, Asitau, for their guidance and kindness.  A special thank you to Amber Phillips, we could not have made it without you.

Even though she will be missed terribly, we are grateful that she knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior and is watching over us in Heaven.
