Carolyn "Carol" Seymour Obituary

This is not just an obituary. This is a story of life, the continuation of a previous narrative of days gone by. It is accompanied with many beautiful moments, common hopes and common struggles.

Carolyn Ann Hatfield was born in Athens, Ohio on February 17, 1942, the only biological child of Robert Hatfield and Elsie Eileen Powell. Carol also had two half siblings; Bob Lee Hatfield and Jean Johnston. Carol married at the young age of 15 to David Bud Phelps. Together they started a family with 4 of the best children any mother & father could ask for, Treasa, Mike, Gary, and Karen.

 In Carol’s very own fashion, to face struggles and bring hope, there were life changes. Carol married Richard “Dick” Seymour March 17, 1982. Carol & Dick shared numerous life adventures together, hunting, camping, running a mason business, moving to Texas and then ultimately returning to Ohio. They were passionate for each other and all that life had to offer. What they once enjoyed sadly faded when Dick passed away in 2023. He left a huge void in many ways, and one in Carol’s heart.

Carol was not exempt from tragedies during her lifetime. In 2003 her son Gary’s daughter, Candace, died in a tragic accident. In 2014 her oldest child, Treasa exited to heaven from a battle with cancer. Carol’s other daughter, Karen, had two sons die at young ages, Dewayne Tackett age 39 in 2019 & David Simms age 26 in 2021.

Carol’s best children married and had several amazing children of their own, Treasa & Dave Holland: Brandi (Matt) Jividen, Angie (Jeff) Griffith, Meggan ( Derek Will) Holland, Kate (Danny Rains) Holland. Mike & Joyce Phelps: Jamie (Danny Nichols) Chancey, Michael (Becky Seagert) Phelps, Tommy (Kayla) Phelps. Gary & Diane Phelps: Morgan Phelps. Karen & Doug Simms: Richard (Beth Burleigh) Simms.

The plot is fluid, only lingering to add more life to each paragraph of the script because the curtain does not close. There are great grandchildren born to those amazing children: Moriah, Noah, Owen, Zoey, Brook, Gwen, Oliver, Gideon, Mira, Adrienne, Holland, John, Grace, and Rayna.

Carol held a captivated audience of her choosing and liking, she lived her life by her terms, always holding steadfast to the center of the stage.

The written events don’t end here, death has just created more chapters to be written.

As a very wise man once wrote

Find rest, o my soul, in GOD alone;

My hope comes from HIM.

HE alone is my rock and my salvation;

HE is my fortress, I will not be shaken

Psalms 62: 2-3
