Charles Dunkin Obituary

Charles Dunkin, age 82, of Columbus, Oh, passed away on March 1st, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 21st, 1941 to the late Leonard and Bernice (Cottrell) Dunkin in Dunkinsville, Ohio. Along with his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Beverly J. Dunkin, his sister Judy Bruce, and his brothers-in-law Carl A. Russell and Ralph F. Russell. He is survived by his children, Lyn (Amy) Dunkin, and Lea (Jeff) Paulsen and his adoring grandchildren, Tanner Dunkin, Colton Dunkin, Emily Paulsen, Brian Daigle, and several nieces and nephews.

Growing up Chuck was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsmen and car enthusiast. As a young child he spent his days on the family farm in Dunkinsville, Ohio. His family soon moved to Columbus, Ohio and opened a few small businesses. As Chuck entered high school, he joined the Central Ohio Anglers and Hunters Club and became a skilled trap and skeet shooter while also competing in the Grand American for several years.

Chuck met his future wife Beverly in 1960 while attending classes at Central High School in Columbus, Ohio. They were married a few years later and started a family. Chuck loved his children and his grandchildren. He could often be seen volunteering at different events his children were involved with and attending several track meets, wrestling meets, band concerts, dance recitals, and drum and bugle corps competitions. He loved spending time with his grandchildren flying kites, fishing, taking walks, eating ice cream, or sledding with his grandchildren. In addition to his grandchildren Chuck was a tremendous role model to others and cherished uncle that enjoyed spoiling his nieces and nephews. He was an incredible man with a strong work ethic, never knew a stranger, and was proud of his children.

Chuck became a Free Mason after retirement and enjoyed the brotherhood of his fellow lodge members. He often volunteered for special events and memorial ceremonies for other lodge members. He was an amazing dad, grandpa, uncle, brother, and husband.

His family will receive friends from 12-2:00 pm on Thursday, March 7 at Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, Ohio with the funeral service to begin at 2:00. Interment to follow at Silent Home Cemetery.
