Eldora Ball Hayman,”Ellie-Dee-Dee”, age 90, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022 at her home. She is preceded in death by her husband, of 56 years, Paul K. Hayman Jr., parents John and Letha Ball, and siblings Dorsie, Maridell, Annabelle, Lucille, Leona, Vera and S. A. “Bud” Ball. Survived by daughters Karen (Richard) Hinkle, Kay (Jay) Guthrie, and Kelly (Jeffrey) Shellhammer; grandchildren Brittany White, Jena (Scott) Tucci, Taylor Shellhammer and Tyler Hinkle; dearest sister Naomi Towers; brother Raymond (Carol) Ball; special nieces Patty Arndt, Brenda Rivers; many nieces and nephews. Eldora, a graduate of South High School, worked in administrative offices of Columbus Public Schools and retired from her position at Columbus School for Girls in 1996. She was a member of Stonybrook United Methodist and volunteered often including at Mt. Carmel Hospital in the Women’s Center. Eldora was a loyal customer of Lazarus and especially Hallmark Card Shops as her personal ministry was to share her love and care through cards for every occasion. She had saved nearly every card that was sent to her through her long life. Eldora was a prolific crocheter having recently completed a scarf and had a pattern chosen for the next one. She crocheted countless pieces for the Stonybrook Knit, Crochet and Embroidery Ministry. Her grandchildren called her “Grams” and "Grammy" and she was blessed with their love, their attention and most-treasured, their time. Eldora was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first great-grandchild due this June to granddaughter Jena and her husband Scott Tucci.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday, May 21 from 9-11 a.m. at Stonybrook United Methodist, 485 Cherrybottom Road, Gahanna, Ohio, where her service will follow at 11:00 a.m., Pastor David Hoffman officiating. Private family interment will be held. Contributions may be made in her memory to Capital City Hospice or to Stonybrook United Methodist Church Music Endowment Fund.
