Gerald Oliver Obituary

Gerald A Oliver, age 90, died peacefully in his sleep on December 1st and was immediately in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gerry’s love for the Lord overflowed towards everyone around him. He devoted his life to teaching the Bible and serving Christ through his church. Gerry was a long-time member at the Grace Polaris Church where he was an elder and teacher; later in life he joined Jersey Baptist Church which was closer to his home and where he continued to lead Bible studies.

Gerry was born on February 2nd in Castleberry Alabama to Mack and Cassie Oliver; he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian and Faye. Gerry is survived by his wife of 73 years Gretta (Young); the couple met while they were both attending Springfield High School. Gerry joined the Air Force after graduation and attended electronics school before going to Korea where he was stationed at Kimpo Air Base.

A resident of Reynoldsburg, Gerry worked at North American Aviation (later Rockwell) and then at Western Electric (ATT) as an engineer and program manager. He enjoyed two hobbies: remote-controlled airplanes and golf. He retired early from ATT so that he could devote more time to family and church.

He is survived by four children: Pam Schenk (Steve), Kim McKeand (Bruce), Craig Oliver (Mary Ann), and Rob Oliver (Lisa). Gerry and Gretta have 10 grandchildren: Sara, Betsy, Peter, Jarrett, Nicole, Brandon, Levi, Tabitha, Nathan, Rachel, and 16 great-grandchildren. The family would also like to recognize Val Brickey and Nicolas Wakeling, two of Gerry’s particular friends. The family will receive friends at Cotner Funeral Home in Reynoldsburg on Monday December 4th starting at 12:00 followed by a service at 1:00. There will be a private graveside service. The family requests no flowers at the funeral home.
