Gretta Jean (Young) Oliver, age 91, of Reynoldsburg died peacefully on January 22nd and was immediately in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gretta’s love for the Lord overflowed towards everyone around her. Gretta shared this love with her family and friends, taking every opportunity to express the love of Christ in her words and deeds.
Gretta was a long-time member at the Grace Polaris Church, where she sang in the choir and played cello in the orchestra. She enjoyed being part of the ‘Living Christmas Tree’ for many years. While at Grace she and Gerry were privileged to visit the Holy Land and walk where Jesus walked. Later in life she joined Jersey Baptist Church which was closer to home and where she continued to participate in the activities of the church.
Gretta was born on September 22nd in Springfield Ohio to Eugene and Jeanette Young. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Gerry, who passed in December. They met while they were both attending Springfield High School; after graduation Gerry joined the Air Force and they were married in Alabama. After he returned from a year in Korea they had a joyful reunion, but not as nice as the reunion they experienced this week. Gretta retired from Children's Hospital where she served as a data manager in the outpatient oncology department.
She is survived by four children: Pam Schenk (Steve), Kim McKeand (Bruce), Craig Oliver (Mary Ann), and Rob Oliver (Lisa). Gerry and Gretta have 12 grandchildren: Sara, Betsy, Peter, Jarrett, Nicole, Brandon, Levi, Tabitha, Nathan, Adrienne, Beth, Rachel, and 16 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Cotner Funeral Home in Reynoldsburg on Friday January 26th starting at 11:00 followed by a service at 12:00, followed by a graveside service at Glen Rest Memorial Estate.
