Harold "Hal" A. Scheiderer

Harold A. Scheiderer passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Hal was born on February 10, 1937, to Harold and Jeanne Scheiderer. He spent his early years in Union County before his family moved to the south side of Columbus, where he graduated from Columbus South High School in 1955. 

Following high school, Hal attended The Ohio State University, where he earned both his bachelor's and master’s degrees. During this time, he also honorably served his country in the United States Army.

On September 4, 1960, Hal married the love of his life, Roberta. Together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and service, sharing nearly 66 wonderful years of marriage.

Hal devoted 33 years to Reynoldsburg City Schools as a teacher, coach, and principal before retiring in 1991. Throughout his career, he inspired generations of students and athletes while mentoring countless educators. Even after retirement, one of his greatest joys was reconnecting with former colleagues and students, hearing about their lives, and celebrating their accomplishments. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering belief in others left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

A devoted Christian, Hal was a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where he faithfully served in a variety of leadership roles over the years. His faith was the foundation of his life and was reflected in the way he loved and served others.

Hal was a passionate fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. He enjoyed playing and watching golf, was an avid reader, and especially loved sharing favorite books with friends and family. Above all, Hal treasured time spent with those he loved.

Hal is survived by his beloved wife, Roberta; his children, Dean (Gina) Scheiderer, Renee (Erik) Lambert, and Kurt (Jennifer) Scheiderer; brother Chris (Pat) Scheiderer and Tom (Judy) Scheiderer; 11 cherished grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy. He loved each of them with his whole heart, and they will forever carry his legacy of faith, compassion, integrity, and love.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Hal's life during calling hours on Friday, July 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1200 Waggoner Road. A private family service will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, Hal would love for family and friends to consider donations to Habitat for Humanity or the Heart Food Pantry.
