Jack Hunter Obituary

Jack Duane Hunter, 92, died peacefully at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, on May 7th, 2025. He was born January 3rd, 1933, preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and John Hunter, his sister’s, Jane and Donna.

Jack is survived by his beloved sister’s, Mary Hunter, and, Shirley Schultz and brother-in law, Karl Schultz; daughters, Debbie Czerwinski and Cindi Buccola, son, Michael Hunter; grandchildren, Brittani Dellostritto, Danny, Ryan, James and Jonathan Hunter, Annie Merrill, Mark and Matt Santos; great-grandchildren, Fiona, Alma and Seamus Farley and Knox and Noelle Hunter and Levi Santos; and many nephews and nieces and extended family.

Jack, graduated from Lancaster High School and The Ohio State University with a degree in BioSciences, Genetics and Bacteriology. After graduated from OSU, he joined the Army as a member of the Medical Corps, where he trained as a surgical nurse and paramedic and spent twenty-six months in West Germany caring for soldiers evacuated from Korea.

In August of 1957, after his release from the Army, Jack married and worked in his father's hardware store in Canal Winchester. His three children were born in 1957, 1958, and 1959. His children uniquely share the same November birthday’s. In 1970, Jack went to work for the Ohio Department of Education. He spent 25 years leading construction, building, maintenance and staff training for Ohio’s Public School buildings. He was given many accolades for his contributions and his service.

Over his life time, Jack persuaded his passion for photography, hiking and enjoying exploring the great outdoors. He cherished the companionship of dogs and they brought him immense joy and happiness into his life.

In 2000, while visiting his sister and brother-in law, Jack became deeply impressed by Acadia National Park in Maine. In his travels further north, he fell in love with Nova Scotia and with the help of his son, Michael, he began to build his dream home on the ocean near Bayswater, Nova Scotia. Over the next ten years, with the help of his entire family, Jack continued to work on and live in his custom home for many happy years. He returned to Ohio to be nearer to family, spending his last years at Otterbein of Granville Senior Community.

With grateful hearts, his family wishes to recognize the kindness and compassion shown by the physicians and nursing staff at Mount Carmel East 4M. His passing is a loss to us all.

A private family service will be held in his honor.
