James Douglas “Doug” Cyrus, 80, of Reynoldsburg, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023. He was born on February 1, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio. He was a resident of Reynoldsburg, Ohio since 1957 and a graduate of the class of 1961. He is preceded in death by parents Jim and Mayme (Curnutte) Cyrus; sister Sharon Cyrus Preece, and aunt Patty Dalton.
Doug loved his guitar and band, “Sugar Branch.” In his youth he spent summers with his grandparents and cousins at Queens Creek in the hills of West Virginia. He became a Machinist/Toolmaker and retired from Ebco Manufacturing. He went on to have his own machine shop which he shared with 2 sons and grandsons. As an adult, he went back to the hills with his wife Judy and created a retreat for their family. His other interests included fishing, traveling, studying the bible, and giving big hugs to his family and good friends.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Judy Cyrus; children Brook (Lisa), Scott (Velma), Dan, Deborah (Brad) Rose, and Teresa (Bob) Yarbrough; step-children Kevin (Rocky) Karnes and Amy Karnes; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; sister Nita, her husband and dear friend Eric Carsten; niece Karen Kinney, her two daughters and 6 grand-children; his Kansas City cousins Tom, Jim, Vicki, and Terri, and his West Virginia cousins Roberta and Joe.
His family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 16, from 5-7pm at Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, where his funeral will be held on Thursday at 10am. Graveside service to follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
