James “Jim” Harvey Alexander, 71, beloved husband, father, and friend passed away unexpectedly on May 10, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on June 2, 1954 in Canton, Ohio. Jim’s life was full of love, kindness, and serving others.

Jim was a wealth of knowledge and experience, from restoring classic cars to saving lives. Jim graduated from West Holmes High School and attended Ohio State University. He also volunteered then worked at West Licking Fire Department for a total of 39 years, finishing his career there as a Captain. He shared his knowledge teaching and supervising others to guarantee that excellent care was being delivered.

In recent years, Jim and his loving wife of 53 years, Carol, spent winters in Florida, bringing their dogs Teddy and Scout. They could often be found spending time with friends and playing cards. Jim never met a dog who didn’t immediately love him and win him over for pets and human food.

He is also survived by his siblings: Janet Hawkins, Greg Alexander, and Thomas Alexander (Irene), his brother-in-law Sidney Gamertsfelder (Sherry), step-brother-in-law Scott Hepner (Elaine), and several nieces and nephews.
