Jan Beryl Yates, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a three year battle with mesothelioma. He was born July 20, 1947 in Logan, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Laura (Pheister) Yates and half-brother Michael Yates. He graduated from Reynoldsburg High School in 1965 and received a Masters of Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University. He spent most of his career at Battelle Memorial Institute where he had 33 U.S. patents and several foreign patents. He was a long time member of Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church. Jan loved to travel (especially by train), ballroom dance and spend time with his family. After retirement he became a mentor for the Reynoldsburg High School Robotics Team. Jan is survived by his wife of 53 years Pat (Richardson); children Amy Michelle Stewart, Andrew Richard Yates (Tessa Carrel), Emily Ann (Cody) Schlager, Katherine Marie (Charles) Carullo; grandchildren Nathan and Alexa Stewart, Blake, Maura, and Margaret (Maggie) Yates, Ella Schlager, Maria, Grace, Caroline and Scarlett Carullo; sister Lauren Lee (Terry) Nader and family, and longtime friends from his Couple’s Club. His family had a private service and burial followed at Glen Rest Memorial Estate. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
