Janice Margaret Merrick

Janice Margaret Merrick (Kerscher) originally from Columbus, Ohio passed away
peacefully on May 8th  2025 at the age of 86 at Primrose Assisted Living in Mansfield.
Janice was born in Columbus, OH on October 1st , 1938 to Irwin and Clara Kerscher.
Janice was the eldest of their six children and attended St. Leo’s Elementary and St.
Mary’s High School in German Village. On May 24th , 1969 Janice married Richard
Merrick and began their life together on the East side of Columbus. They were early
members of the Church of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal where Janice’s Catholic
faith remained important to her. Things were going too well for too long, and in 1972
they made the decision to adopt their first son, Scott. After a few years, and forgetting
how much work a baby is, they made the decision to adopt their second son, Todd.
Janice loved being a mother and was a fixture on school field trips and volunteering at
school. Janice had careers in several fields when her boys were in school, but one of
her favorites was working for Ameritech and she retired in 2000. With the end of that
career came the start of her true favorite job and title of “Grandma” following the birth of
her first grandchild. Her home was filled with pictures of all 4 grandchildren.

Janice is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Richard. She is also survived by her sons,
Scott (Elizabeth) of Lexington, Ohio and Todd (Katie) of Portland, Oregon as well as her
grandchildren Jae, Zoe, James and Collin. She is also survived by her siblings Ken
(Babs), Marylin, and Nancy (George), sisters in law Maryann Kerscher and Eileen
Merrick, along with nieces, nephews and close friends and neighbors.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents Irwin and Clara, her brother Dan, her sister JoAnne
and Joanne’s husband Larry along with many of her close and dear friends.

Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30
a.m. at Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, where her prayer
service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Deacon Stephen Venturini as the celebrant.
Entombment will take place immediately after the service at St. Joseph's Catholic
Cemetery, 6440 S. High Street, Lockbourne, Ohio 43137
