Joan Rauth Curnutte

How did you fill the dash between the dates?
My mother filled the dash with all that she could. She loved to read and learn and write and take
in the world around her. She knew about anything I asked but oftentimes had me look it up
myself. Sound out the word when I didn’t know how it was spelled or look it up if I didn’t know
what it meant.
Like most of us, she didn’t do it perfectly but she did the best she could. She put the needs of
her children and her family first. Sometimes she took the harder road so others could walk easy.
She stood in the background applauding so we could shine. She advocated for us, her children,
when we were wronged or didn’t have a voice. When illness came she stroked our hair and
rubbed our backs so we could rest and gain our strength.
Although we never lacked for anything she taught us the value of hard work and putting in extra
effort even though the task was difficult. When the world was against us she stood in our corner
never giving up and loving us through the storm. Her faith was strong and prayers consistent.
She knew no matter what she could find her strength in God. Maybe that’s why she had so
much available for us.
With outstretched arms and so much love she lived the dash to the fullest.
Joan Rauth Curnutte is awaited in heaven by her parents, Leonard and Agnes Rauth, and her
sweet nephew, Colin Cohagan.
Here to celebrate her life until we see her again are her children, Marc LaRue and Stacey
(Kelly) Bloomfield, her grandson, Ethan Schwartz, her sisters, Marilyn Rauth, Nancy (Owen)
Cohagan, Linda (Ron) Dewan, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
