John Edward Freschman, 82, passed away April 30, 2026, in Columbus.
Born March 14, 1944, he was born and raised as he would say “none of your business.” That response summed him up well—he lived life on his own terms.
John proudly served in the 101st Airborne Division of the Army and was honorably discharged. He later worked as an electrician, a trade he took great pride in throughout his career.
He was known for his sharp wit, unmistakable laugh, strong opinions, always ready with a joke, story, or an opinion—whether you asked for it or not, and a charm that made him a bit of a flirt. John loved saving a penny, spending time with his cats and fondly remembering his beloved cat Graybe.
His greatest joy, however, was being “Pap Pap John” to his grand babies.
John is survived by his daughter and as he would say son, Paula(Larry) Morgan; his sister, Alice Freschman; his brother, Bill Freschman; his granddaughters Chelsea (Eddie) Nash, and their son Edward John Nash; Justine (Clint) Linn, and their children Connor, Charlee, and Josie Linn.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Carter; his dad, Edward Freschman; His Uncle, Schuyler Reynolds; and many relatives and friends, also his idol Ronald Reagan.
Per John’s wishes, there will be no funeral or formal services. He will be cremated.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cat Welfare Association https://catwelfareassoc.org/donate
John will be remembered for his humor, independence, loyalty to what he believed in, and his unapologetically unique way of seeing life.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26
