John E. Raile, age 85, of Columbus, Ohio...., call-sign W8NEE, became a Silent Key and signed off for the final time on May 25, 2026. He was born August 9th, 1940, in McConnelsville, Ohio, to the late George and Winifred Raile.
John was a proud graduate of M & M High School in McConnelsville and a graduate of Columbus State Community College. He also honorably served in the United States Air Force Reserves.
John was the owner of Action Printing and Signs in Columbus, Ohio, where he built lasting relationships through his work.
John cherished time with family at his cabins, on the Muskingum River, playing the trombone with the DeVry Jazz Band and cheering on THE Ohio State University. A lifelong fisherman, and an avid ham radio operator and administrator who thrived in connecting with people all over the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Winifred Raile; brothers-in-law, Charlie Alligood, Jim Garrett, and Gary Dawn.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Raile; his sons, Mark Raile and John Raile (Carrie Raile); and his cherished grandchildren, Kyle Raile, Kaetlyn Raile, Hannah Raile, Macguire George, Mason George, and Mackenna George. He is also survived by his sisters, Martha Raile Alligood, Ruth Garrett, Susan Dawn, and Margaret Hutchins (Bruce Hutchins); Brother-in-law, Daniel Tompkins (Mimi); Sister-in-law, Mary Tompkins, along with many nieces and nephews and friends who will miss him.
John's family will receive friends on Monday, June 1, 2026 from 10:00am to 12 Noon at the Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 E. Main St. Reynoldsburg, OH where his funeral service will be held at 12 Noon with Pastor John Ennis officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Rest Cemetery.
