John "Jack" Winters Obituary

John Allison (Jack) Winters, Sr., age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 09, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the eldest of two children born on April 15, 1928, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Jack met the love of his life at the Stop 40. Jeannine Turner worked there, and Jack was working with his uncle Chuck delivering ice. Chuck went inside to see how much ice they needed and when he came out to the truck he told Jack, “Boy, you need to go inside and see the girl working in there!” Jack went in, asked her out, and the rest was history. They were married on her 20th birthday on March 26, 1950.

He joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska, until he was honorably discharged in January 1953 to join his family in Ohio after his son was diagnosed with polio.

Jack & Jeannine were Lifetime Charter members of the Reynoldsburg-Truro Historical Society; active members of the Spirit & Truth Fellowship Church; Senior Members of the Whitehall Historical Society; and were dedicated yearly attendees of the Reynoldsburg Alumni Association Banquets.

Jack loved anything to do with racing, including driving his own stock racecar. Later on, he was fascinated with drones, and you could find him hovering one in his yard. He was never one to mince words. He had a dry sense of humor and said what he thought. These qualities are what we all loved about him.

He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and father-in-law. He will be deeply missed by those left behind. Jack was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Jeannine Anna (Turner) Winters, and his parents, Allison Aloysius Winters and Martha Francis (Alspaugh) Winters.

He is survived by his dedicated son, John Allison (Marcella ‘Marcy’) Winters, Jr., and loving daughter, Sandra ‘Sandy’ (Kevin ‘KB’) Bickham; sister, Martha (Janice) Schrader; Brother-in-Law, Jack Turner of Ocklawaha, FL; Sisters-in-Law, Polly Turner (Jim) of New Carlisle, OH and Linda Turner (Thomas) of Warminster, PA; grandchildren, Evan Winters of Celina, OH, Kristopher Bickham of Pearland, TX, Matthew (Andra ‘Andi’) Bickham of Allen TX, and Emily Bickham of McKinney, TX; Great-Grandchildren, Aubrey Medina, Wyatt and Lydia Bickham; and numerous nieces & nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 12, 2022, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 E. Main St. Reynoldsburg, OH 43068 where his funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 10:00am with Pastor Brent Harris officiating. Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estate following the service.

Jack’s family wishes to express a special “Thank You” to his helper, Cordelia, and the Promedica Hospice nurses who gave such excellent care, especially his Nurse Case Manager, Dawn, who spent extra time with all of them during the transition.
