Joseph Michael Mangia, 94, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025. He was born May 29, 1930 in Columbus, Ohio to Onofrio and Cosima Mangia. Joe started boxing in high school and excelled as a Golden Gloves boxer including golden glove runner up in the state championship, he was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korean conflict, then worked in aerospace for Lockheed in California, before returning to Ohio in 1979 where he went to work for Tom Cannon in refrigeration installation and repair. Joe had many diverse interests and activities throughout his life; in high school he sang in a band, was a “Joe of all trades” and could fix anything and regularly called on to help his family with home repairs. He enjoyed poker, blitz, and the casino; gardening, planting tomatoes and growing many items in his own garden through the years. He loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time backpacking and camping. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, of 74 years Betty Jo Mangia, parents, siblings, his daughter Brenda Stucker, and grandson Joseph Fonseca. Joe is survived by children Beverly (Dave) Becker, Sharon Fonseca, Joseph V. (Carol) Mangia, Julie (Hans) Hanna, Steven (Ann) Mangia, and John (Tracy) Mangia; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, 70 plus in total; many more extended family members and friends. His family will be gathering for a private graveside service in his honor.
