Juan (John) Manuel Gutierrez, age 71, passed away May 25, 2021 in Pickerington, Ohio. Juan was born November 7, 1949 in Havana, Cuba and baptized Catholic at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Preceded in death by parents Juan and Ana Gutierrez.
He emigrated by himself to the United States, fleeing the Castro Regime, and arriving in Miami, Florida at the age of twelve in 1962. Later relocated by Catholic Social Services to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Relocated again in 1966 to Columbus, Ohio. He was eventually reunited with his mother; Ana Gutierrez, who emigrated from Cuba to the United States in 1968.
Juan graduated from Bishop Hartley High School in 1970 and attended classes at The Ohio State University. He was a volunteer scout and assistant football coach at Whitehall Yearling H.S., Zanesville Rosecrans H.S., Bishop Hartley H.S., and Hamilton Township H.S. Juan proudly became a naturalized American citizen in 1988. He worked in North Carolina for three years before returning to Columbus, Ohio where he retired from Roxane Laboratories. Juan enjoyed vacationing to the beaches in Florida and the Carolinas. He was a devoted Catholic and a generous and loving friend.
A Memorial Mass for Juan will be held at Christ the King Church, 2777 E. Livingston Avenue, Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.
