Obituary

Loretta Louise Patterson was born November 8, 1931 to John Andrew and Emma (Kuehl) Meyer. She passed away peacefully in her home in Naalehu, HI, on October 24, 2022, held by two daughters and her son-in-law and feeling the love and energy of her other four children and her eight grandchildren.  The oldest of ten children, she was born in Gary, IN, and grew up in Valparaiso, IN.  As a young girl, she worked at the local A&W Root Beer stand.  There, she met William “Bill” Patterson, whom she married on September 22, 1951.  They lived in Syracuse, NY, Fort Wayne, IN, and Tulsa, OK.  In 1962, they moved to Reynoldsburg, OH, where they were long-time members of St. Pius X Catholic Church.  Loretta was an active member of several church groups including the Little Flower Garden club, Eucharistic ministry, Matthew 23:11, and the Rosary Altar Society.  Loretta was a proud 30+ year employee as the hostess at the Brice-Livingston McDonald’s in Columbus, OH.  In 2010, she and Bill moved to Strongsville, OH and were members of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was involved in many Senior activities.  In 2020, Loretta moved to Hawaii to enjoy it’s beauty, sunshine, and flowers and to live next to her eldest daughter and son-in-law in her beloved little house.  She was a member of Naalehu Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She was an excellent seamstress and an avid genealogist.  She loved working in any garden, crocheting, feeding the birds, and feeding the local visiting cat.  Those were the things that brought her peace and joy.

She is survived by her loving children, Linda (Jeff) Rowand of Naalehu, HI, Ann Marie (Steve) Jaschen of Clive, IA, Bill (Gwen) Patterson of Minneapolis, MN, Mary (Ray) Shively of North Olmsted, OH, Anita (Ray) Camma of Medina, OH, and Michael (Michelle) Patterson of Norwalk, IA, her sisters, Charlotte Smith, Phyllis Lyons, Mary Ann Jones, and Julie Rush.  She leaves eight adored grandchildren, Kyle (Brynn) Jaschen, Eric Jaschen, Tyler (Monia) Patterson, Jessica Patterson, Raymond (Margaret) Camma, Vinny Camma, Benjamin Patterson, Joey Patterson, and two great-grand-children, Filip Patterson and Elaina Jaschen, and many treasured nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William F. Patterson, infant twin daughters, Mary Joan and Margaret Jean, sister Joan Meyer, brothers John, Robert, James and Mark Meyer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1051 Waggoner Rd, Reynoldsburg, OH, on November 14, 2022, at 11:00 am. Visitation one hour before the mass at the church. Interment following at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Pataskala, Ohio, followed by a reception, with memories to be shared, at the Msgr. Funk Parish Family Center at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
