Marilou Ruth Harmeyer, 78, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, passed away surrounded by family on June 7, 2022. Marilou was born on October 28, 1943 in Newport, Rhode Island.
Marilou graduated with her nursing degree from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She completed her nursing residency at Mercy Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio. She then continued to work at Mercy Hospital, where she would eventually meet her husband Jack. She and Jack were married on September 21, 1968, and they were married for 41 years before his passing in April of 2010. Marilou left nursing to become a stay-at-home mother to their six children.
She loved books and spent time as a librarian at Ohio Dominican College when her children were older. She enjoyed reading, playing solitaire and word games, and watching her HGTV and Food Network shows. Our mother had a competitive spirit and she was dedicated to her Catholic faith. She was a dedicated wife, dedicated mother to her six children, and an amazing grandma.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, John (Jack), parents (Robert and Marilyn Taylor), and brother John Taylor. She is survived by her children Lori (Mike) Kane, Denise (Mike) Eby, Kimberly Porter, Gregory (Andrea) Harmeyer, Shannon (Sam) Almazan, Anastasia Harmeyer, 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, brothers (Mike and Harry Taylor), sister (Jeanne Taylor), and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
One of the many things we loved about our mother was her laugh. It was as unique as she was, and it was the kind of laugh that was contagious, and it would easily cause anyone around her to also break out into laughter. She will truly be missed by all who met her, and we will cherish her memory forever.
Her family will receive friends on Monday, June 13, from 9:30-10am, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Chapel, 5600 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio, with her service to begin at 10am. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 1379 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio.
