Mark Alan McDonnell passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, after a lifetime of dedicated public service, community involvement, and deep love for his family and friends.
Mark served as Health Commissioner in both Columbus and Xenia, Ohio, devoting over 40 years to improving public health and the well-being of others. A proud and active member of the Reynoldsburg-Pickerington Rotary Club, he also served as its president, embodying the Rotary motto of Service Above Self.
He was an active member of Church of the Redeemer United Methodist, where he found strength in his faith and connection with his community. An avid golfer, Mark could often be found on the course with friends, enjoying the game and the camaraderie it brought.
After retiring, he and his beloved wife, Darlene — who preceded him in death in September 2022 — enjoyed spending time together at flea markets and garage sales, always on the hunt for hidden treasures.
Mark loved his cats, his community, and above all, his family. He is survived by his daughters Colleen McDonnell, Meghan McDonnell, and Caitlin McDonnell (Mike Waclo); his sister Beth McDonnell; brothers Kevin (Pat) McDonnell and Tim (Terri) McDonnell; and many cherished nephews. He is reunited in peace with Darlene, his wife of many years, and his parents, Bonnie and Frank McDonnell.
Mark will be remembered as a devoted father, a compassionate friend, a wise mentor, and a kind neighbor. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for those around him leave a lasting legacy.
