On Tuesday, December 29, 2020, Homer Nichols Jr. Loving husband and father passed at the age of 87.
"Nick" Homer was born on December 3, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri to Homer Sr. and Margaret Nichols. He enlisted into the Army at age 17, and went to fight in the Korean War. After the war, he worked 22 years for Consolidated Freightway as an over-the-road driver and then once retired, he drove a Columbus City School Bus for 10 years.
Nick loved all sports, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved being with family and friends. In his earlier days he was a "big barbecue on the grill" person, making many a good rib with his own homemade sauce.
He is preceded in death by father Homer Nichols Sr. & mother Margaret Nichols; special aunt Dorothy Howard; and grandson Leamon Cortez Phillips.
Nick is survived by his wife of 27 years Cinda; his children Malcolm Phillips (Pamela), Denise Phillips, Rhonda Phillips, Philip Purkey (Lillian), David Nichols, and Jerome Nichols (Kerri); 5 grandsons and 1 granddaughter; mother-in-law, Harriette Murphy; brothers-in-law Jerry Murphy (Mary), Mark Murphy (Leslie), and Matthew Murphy (Carmen); and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Nick's family will receive friends 2-3 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2021 at Cotner Funeral Home 7369 East Main St. Reynoldsburg where his memorial service will follow at 3 p.m.
Private inurnment at a later date at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Columbus, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Nick's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
