Rex Alan Walters, born July 23, 1963, in Lancaster, Ohio to Vernon and Bettie Walters, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at home in Katy, Texas. He attended Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Home in Xenia through high school, then went on to Findlay College in Ohio, where he graduated with a degree in Computers.
Rex worked at Buckeye Lake Truck Stop for 10 years as an Assistant Manager before joining Sysco Foods. Over the past 33 years, he advanced from merchandising to the IT department, where he made a name for himself as a Data Wrangler, demonstrating a natural gift for Information Technology.
Rex had a passion for life and a wide array of interests. He was known for his love of barbecuing, often hosting family and friends for delicious meals that showcased his culinary skills. A dedicated Ohio State football fan, Rex rarely missed a game and proudly cheered on the Buckeyes. He loved to travel, exploring new places and creating cherished memories with his loved ones. Family gatherings were particularly special to him, as he treasured the time spent with those he loved. In his quieter moments, Rex enjoyed immersing himself in the world of old Western movies, finding joy and relaxation in the tales of cowboys and outlaws.
Rex is survived by his wife Janice of 34 years; daughter Courtney; aunt Ruth Radcliffe; uncle Ralph and Carol Walters; brothers Vernon (Sandy), Jeff (Cheryl), Kenny, and Pat; nieces Quinn Sherrill, Evelyn (Joe) Shields, Angie Binder, and Christy (Nick) Sabherwal; nephews Chris Walters, Josh (Kara) Walters, Alan (Catlin) Walters, Jeffrey Walters, Jesse Walters, and Justin Walters; sister-in-law Zoe (David) Sherrill; and many special friends, including Rod and Sally Mason, Mike Fisher, Mike Roberts, Leroy Stapleton, and Bob Allen. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Betty Walters; sister Susan Henley; cousin Scott (Beth) Walters; and brother Mike Walters.
A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on December 13 at Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Inurnment to follow at Kirkersville Cemetery, Newark, Ohio
