Richard James Dick, 95, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Graduate of Central Catholic High School, Canton, Ohio, Class of 1947. Served as a Navy Corpsman in the Korean War. Attended Kent State University, with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Dick was a Medical Technologist at Aultman Hospital (Canton), where he met his future wife. After moving to Columbus, Ohio, Dick started his career as a research chemist at The Battelle Memorial Institute. Advancing through many positions, Dick remained with Battelle for 50 years. One of his main projects was Battelle Ponce Inlet, Florida.
Dick was a sports enthusiast, playing tennis well into his later years. He played many instruments, giving his first violin concert at the age of 3 years. He was a member of the Huntington Library in California and was a “Huntington Reader”. Dick was very active with the Battelle Senior Associates. He was a strong supporter of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the Columbus Jazz Band, and Opera Columbus. He was one of the founding members of the Bishop Griffin Resource Center (Bexley, Ohio).
He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Genevieve (Goodwin) Dick. He is survived by his four daughters; Debra (Larry) Fast, Nancy (George) Fulton, Susan (L. Philip) Behn, and Patricia Dick; grandchildren, Patrick (Kelly) Fulton, and Sarah (Michael) Piteo; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Genevieve Piteo, Elijah, Alexander, and Emily Fulton.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dick will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 10:30am Christ the King Catholic Church, 2777 E. Livingston Ave. Columbus, OH 43209. The family will not be holding public visitation hours. Interment Evergreen Burial Park, 1520 Delaware Dr. SE, New Philadelphia, OH 4463 on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made to the Bishop Griffin Resource Center.
