Richard "Dick" Long Obituary

Richard “Dick” Leland Long, age 82, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 10, 2024. He was born on October 15, 1942, in Newark, Ohio, to the late Greer and Dorothy C. (Frischen) Long.

Richard graduated from THE Ohio State University in 1967, and retired after 42 years of dedicated service with Lucent Technologies, AT&T, and Western Electric.

Known for his generosity, wit, and unyielding love for his family, Richard was a rock to his loved ones. As a father, grandfather, “G-pa” and “great-great” grandpa, he was a source of wisdom, strength, and love.

He valued kindness and service to others in all aspects of life. A devout Christian and prayer warrior, Richard was deeply involved in his church, Grace Fellowship, where he actively served the community and volunteered in the children’s ministry. In 2017, he traveled to Texas to provide relief to victims of Hurricane Harvey, embodying his lifelong commitment to service. Richard’s faith and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

In addition to his family and his faith, Richard had a deep love for The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland sports. Whether watching a game on TV or attending in person, Richard's passion for his sports teams was infectious, and while his enthusiasm many times may have been over-the-top and slightly out of control, he was a constant source of joy to those who cheered with him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the love of his life Gloria “Bootie” K. (Helphrey) Long; his son, Bradley Richard Long; grandson, Samual Alexander Long; sisters, Nancie (Bob) Hall, Patty Long, Joyce (Everett) Wright; Ellie (Kent) Giles; brother, Thomas (Barbara) Frischen.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Chuck) Bauer; grandchildren, Brandon (Ashley) Bauer; Zachary (Erika) Long, Brooke Long, Jesi (Blake) Benjamin, Nicholas (Ellie) Bauer, Avery Pence; great-grandchildren, Parker Eisele, Beckham Benjamin, Berkley Benjamin and many nieces and nephews.

Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and dedication. He will be remembered for his unwavering support, his gentle spirit, and his ability to make everyone around him feel valued and loved. He was the best father, pa-pa, “g-pa”, and “great-great” grandpa anyone could have ever hoped for.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Richard’s honor.
