Robert "Bob" M. Shedenhelm was a caring husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He passed away at home with his family by his side on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the age of 84.
Born and raised in Shelby, Ohio, Bob was the second of six children. He was known for his jumping ability in high school excelling at pole vault and rebounding for the Whippets’ Basketball Team that made the elite eight run back in 1956-57. If he wasn’t playing sports he was working, driving trucks for his father’s trucking company. Before attending The Ohio State University, Bob served in the Air National Guard as a mechanic, and to pay his way through school, Bob worked at the Ohio Fairgrounds as a horse trainer in harness racing. It was during his time at OSU that he met the love of his life, Maureen.
Married 56 years, Bob and Maureen raised their sons, John and Matt, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. He passed along his love of sports, rarely missing a game from little league through college. Although Bob had a standing tee time at Blackhawk, he always put his family first. Mauren and his boys knew that could count on him for anything.
Bob worked at Ross Labs 32 years as an Accountant and Manager of Shipping and Storage West Belt Distribution Center. It was there where he met lifelong friends. This special group of friends took epic trips to Lake Cumberland and loved to dine at great places all over central Ohio.
Bob made the most of his retirement. He and Maureen built their dream home in New Albany, the perfect place to host parties and spoil their grandchildren. Bob continued to work, using his accounting skills to support his son’s business and working summers mowing fairways at Rattlesnake Ridge golf course. He was never too busy to cheer his grandchildren as they, too, excelled in sports, from little league to college.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Maureen Shedenhelm; his parents, Robert and Vera Shedenhelm; brother-in-law, George Poffenbaugh; sister, Marlene Yetzer; and nephew, Marty Yetzer. He is survived by his sons, John (Maryanne) and Matt (Sandy) Shedenhelm; grandchildren, Cameron and Hunter Shedenhelm; sisters, Patricia (Bill) Papenbrock, Sheri (Terry) Gestrin, and Vicky (Frank Vogt) Poffenbaugh; brother, Rick (Nancy) Shedenhelm; brother-in-law, Dave Yetzer; sister-in-law, Gail Stevens, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
A celebration of life will be held at Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 E. Main Street, Saturday, July 27, from 1-3 p.m. with a service and eulogy to begin at 2:15.
