Sandra L. Fluharty, 70, of New Martinsville, WV, peacefully passed away December 1, 2025 after a brief battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her children and eldest grandchild in Columbus, OH.
Sandra was born in Sistersville, WV, to the late Harold and Hazel (Cooper) Fluharty on February 5, 1955. She earned her high school diploma in 1974 and was a member of the US Army in 1986.
She was equal parts Country Living magazine and rock star. Sandie loved books, history, old British television, West Virginia Public Broadcasting, Masterpiece Theatre, Appalachia, and all things music and song. She had the voice of an angel. If you were ever fortunate enough to be serenaded by her gorgeous tone, you were likely moved to tears.
The Queen of piddling, kitchen creations, card writing, concert going and porch sitting, she loved to “sit long and talk much,” especially about her “Noniekins” -- her beloved grandchildren. She was committed to her partnership of eight years with her fella Mark Cochran, in which she was deeply loved and cared for.
Sandra leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and service through her children and grandchildren. Surviving are her daughters, Elizabeth Houchin (Jeff) of Hamersville, OH, Maggie Lawson (Shawn) of Reynoldsburg, OH, and her sons, Jesse Pyles (Laura) of Pisgah Forest, NC, and Jason Pyles (Courtney) of New Martinsville, WV.
Her grandchildren are Madison Imhoff (Brady Reisinger), Tyler, Hunter and Kaylie Lawson. Addis, Hazel, and Ruby Pyles. Carter, Noah, and Arlo Pyles, and Jordan and Dylan Davis. Further surviving are two of her sisters, Ruth Phillips and Jean French.
Sandra was the youngest of nine siblings and was preceded in death by her father Harold, her mother Hazel, and siblings Marion, Dale, Jack, Judy, Dickie Joe, and Cathy.
There will be a celebration of life in West Virginia at a later date.
