Sandra Lee Wright Kopas

Sandra Lee Wright Kopas, 72, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2022. 

Sandra Lee Wright Kopas was born on November 11, 1949 to Edward Lee Wright I and Patricia Dolares (Roberts) Wright in Mount Vernon, Ohio. After Sandra graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1967, where she enjoyed being a majorette in the band, she went on to study social work at The Ohio State University, graduating in 1971. Sandra’s career of service included foster care placement and assisting the homeless, jobs that perfectly fit her giving nature. 

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Whitney Wright (Eric) Cole of Blacklick, Ohio, her granddaughter, Eleanor Anne Cole, her brother, Edward Lee Wright II, her nephews and niece, Edward Lee Wright III and his daughter Scarlett, Stori Beth Wright and Chase (Dresden) Wright. 

Sandra loved her family endlessly and treasured spending time with them, enjoying activities like cookouts, shopping for antiques and finding unique stores or farmers’ markets. She especially enjoyed caring for and playing with her granddaughter after school everyday. Her favorite activities they did together were playing “school”, organizing the house and planning parties. Sandra spent many precious hours encouraging Eleanor’s imagination while she was the audience for Eleanor’s “shows”. Of all the ways that Sandra showed her dedication to her family, none is more cherished than the hours she spent loving and nurturing her granddaughter. 

Sandra also loved every single holiday, but she especially enjoyed Christmas. Putting up the Christmas tree was her favorite time. She talked about every ornament and its family significance as she placed each one on the tree, a tradition that created meaningful memories every year. She also had a snowman collection that she kept out to enjoy for the whole year, even though, ironically, she hated being cold. 

Sandra will be dearly missed every day, most especially for the way she could always be relied on to be available to listen and provide supportive, empathetic encouragement and thoughtful advice. Her devotion to her family, the way she often put their needs ahead of her own, created a legacy of love that her family will never forget. 

A Catholic Mass for Sandra will be celebrated on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Saint Matthew the Apostle Church, 807 Havens Corner Rd., Gahanna, Ohio at 10:00 AM. The family requests memorial donations in her honor be made to Ohio Health Hospice at Kobacker House to continue the caring, essential work that they provide to the community.
