April 13, 1957 – September 20, 2025
Stephen Lee Llaneza, 68, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Mt. Carmel Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born April 13, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary (DeMundo) Llaneza.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; his soulmate, Christel Law; his first wife, Tracy McGlaughlin; and his stepdaughter, Rachel Quincel.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Llaneza; children Anastasia Llaneza, Stevie Llaneza (Michelle), and Christian Llaneza (Meghan Olson); stepchildren Emily Davis (Marshall), Alexander Ryll (Brittany), Laurienne Wolfe (Joe), Sarah Tillemont (Leo), and Ladimer Chesnick. He also leaves behind his siblings Michael Llaneza (Julie), Vincent Llaneza, Cathy Llaneza (Bill), and Mercedes Zerrien (Jack).
Stephen was a proud grandfather to Lily Llaneza, Rosalee Davis, Jaidyn Turner, Kinedy Davis, Miles Wharton, Damien Ryll, Jameson Ryll, Layla Ryll, Landen Ryll, Celia Wolfe, and Bo Wolfe, and the beloved “Grandpup” Frankie Lee. He also cherished many nieces, nephews, and countless lifelong friends. Known for his warm personality, Stephen never met a stranger and had an enduring love for his family and friends.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Stephen served as a Red Coat at the horseshoe for THE Ohio State Buckeyes for over 30 years. He coached youth sports for his children, where his guidance left a lasting impact on many young athletes. His love of bowling and golf brought him joy, especially when sharing time at the bowling alley with his son, Stevie aka Jr. His “golf and bowling families” held a special place in his heart. In quieter moments, he enjoyed crossword puzzles and Sudoku.
Saturdays in the fall were spent cheering on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes, while Sundays were devoted to church, family, and his Cincinnati Bengals. Stephen also remained a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds, often joking that sports would “watch him” as he drifted into one of his famous naps. Watching his granddaughters play sports was another great source of pride and happiness.
Though he liked to playfully grumble about animals, Stephen’s love for them was clear. He shared a special bond with Daisy, Cracker, and his daughter’s Frenchie, Frank, who always brightened his days.
Stephen’s Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his life. A devoted member of the Knights of Columbus and a Eucharistic minister, he found great joy in attending Mass with his family. Sundays often ended with lunch at Texas Roadhouse in Grove City, where their favorite server, Holly, always welcomed them with care.
Stephen will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family takes comfort in knowing he was welcomed into heaven with open arms.
“Well… I love you very much.” – Stephen Llaneza
